Description
The Wind: Attempt to restore a Baroque altarpiece
Claude Simon
The novel with a fast-paced plot is a story about a strange human destiny that encounters the unsolvable mystery of peace and chaos, order and disorder.
The novel’s thirty-five-year-old protagonist, Antoine Montes, comes after his father’s death to inherit one of the city’s largest vineyards. As in any provincial town, every new, foreign body is perceived as an absolute encroachment on public order. The events are not presented as an objective scenario, but the author of the story tries to restore the entangled, multi-layered, elusive reality through scattered facts, conversations, his own conclusions.
The story of the “wind” is really like a “baroque cube” with an abundance of details, unpredictable arabesques and curves, endless brackets. Through the fate of the main hero K. Simon expresses his perception of fiction, which often branches out in the course of his search, does not reach the junction, constantly moving “through the sands”.
